It is written to meet the requirements of the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA) and to be easy to read.

When you submit our contact form, we collect the information you choose to provide, which may include:

• Your email address
• Your phone number (optional)
• The type of request, whose story you would like to tell, and your interview preference
• The contents of your message

Please do not include sensitive information, such as health details, financial account numbers or government identification numbers, in the contact form. If such details are part of your story, we will discuss them with you directly.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages requested and the date and time of your visit. This is used to deliver the Site, keep it secure and prevent abuse.

To protect our contact form from spam and automated abuse, we use Cloudflare Turnstile. Turnstile evaluates signals from your browser and device to tell people apart from bots. Cloudflare processes that information under its own privacy policy, available at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not currently use third-party analytics or tracking on this Site.

How we use your information

How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only with service providers that help us operate the Site and respond to you, and only as needed for those purposes:

• Cloudflare, Inc.: website hosting, security and bot protection (Turnstile)
• Resend: delivery of contact form messages by email
• Our email provider: storage of the messages we receive and send

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or safety or the rights or safety of others, or in connection with a sale or transfer of the business.

Your stories and materials

Stories, recordings, notes and photographs you share during interviews are used only to create your story and book. We do not publish or share your story with anyone other than you and the people you designate, unless you give us written permission.

How long we keep information

We keep contact form messages as long as needed to respond to you and to provide any services you request, and afterward as needed for ordinary business records or legal obligations.

Your choices and rights

You may ask us to review, correct or delete the personal information you have submitted through this Site by calling (925) 989-2800 or by sending a request through our contact form. We will respond within a reasonable time.

Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting. Because this Site does not track visitors across third-party websites over time for advertising, it does not change its behavior in response to Do Not Track signals. Other parties do not collect personally identifiable information about your online activities over time and across websites through this Site, except as described above for security purposes.

Children’s privacy

This Site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. When a child’s story is told, a parent or guardian arranges the service and provides any information. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The Site is served over encrypted HTTPS connections, and we use reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Links to other sites

The Site links to other websites, such as Instagram. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and change the effective date above.
